Contact Lenses for Dry Eye
Dry Eye is the main reason people decide not to try contact lenses or stop using them altogether. New clinical research and technology in dry eye management mean this condition is rarely an issue. If you do feel you are experiencing dry eyes we do have a Specialist Dry Eye Clinic, where we can recommend treatments.
What Causes Dry Eyes?
Dryness can be due to one or a combination of the following factors:
An insufficient quantity of tears being produced
The tears being of poor quality
External factors such as air conditioning, central heating, or prolonged computer use
Poor blinking
Incompatibly of the chosen contact lens material with the eye
New Contact Lens Materials
If you have tried lenses in the past and found them too dry, or if you already wear them and would like your lenses to be more comfortable, it’s worth trying some of the newer materials that have been launched in recent months.
These new lenses, incorporate new ingredients that make the lenses less likely to dehydrate. Some like Acuvue Oasys 1 day with Hydralux Technology, which has a tear-infused design that integrates with the patient’s own tear film to help reduce symptoms of tired eyes and dryness.
